On3 Scouting Director Charles Power says Penn State commit Malachi Goodman 'checks so many boxes in what we value at the position'
Penn State’s last three recruiting classes all had at least one player who finished among the nation’s Top 50 prospects in the On300. Coming into this week, that wasn’t the case for the Class of 2025. That all changed Monday when On3 Scouting Director Charles Power announced that Paramus Catholic offensive tackle Malachi Goodman had improved more than 60 spots in the updated rankings, climbing from No. 108 nationally to No. 46.
Listed at 6-foot-5, 315 pounds, Goodman committed to Penn State in early September after taking official visits to Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and USC this past May and June. He eventually narrowed his list down to Auburn, Penn State and USC.
“The biggest factor was development,” Goodman told On3. “The main reasons I committed to Penn State are the coaching staff, how I feel about the offensive line group and I like Coach [Phil Trautwein] a lot.”
He went on to add, “It was a pretty tough decision because of the top schools I was down to. I liked all of them and I could see myself going to each of them. I made my decision around last week.”

Charles Power discusses Penn State commit Malachi Goodman
Charles Power: Malachi Goodman has a lot going for him as an offensive tackle prospect. He has all of the physical markers you look for, with a big frame at over 6-foot-5, around 310 pounds, he has elite length, has the multi-sport background and is very young for the class — he could easily be a 2026 prospect. I think that’s all key in understanding the upside we saw in Goodman prior to his senior year, and I think we’re seeing signs as a senior of him continuing to improve as a prospect.
I really like his film as a senior. He is long, balanced and in control. He plays with good strength, really played well against top competition in games we watched, where he was going up against talented, college-level defensive linemen.

[Goodman] shows good footwork and doesn’t find himself in a lot of unfavorable positions, he doesn’t make a ton of mistakes, which is so encouraging for a prospect that has continued room for growth. It’s a strong year among offensive linemen, and Goodman, when watching the film of these top tackles, was a clear ‘arrow-up’ type of player and one who really checks so many boxes in what we value at the position.
