Penn State tweets of the day

As Penn State wrestling starts the second day of the NCAA Championships on Friday, a report broke Thursday night that a pair of Nittany Lions are going to enter the NCAA transfer portal. It officially opened on Wed., March 19. And, it will stay open until May 2.

According to Justin Basch of the BaschAMania podcast, veteran Nittany Lions Alex Facundo and Gary Steen will be looking for new college homes. The former moved down from 165 pounds to 157 this year following an Olympic redshirt season. But, he lost the competition for the starting job to Tyler Kasak after winning in the Lions’ first dual meet of the year. Kasak, of course, is the No. 1 seed at this year’s championships. Facundo finishes his Penn State career with a record of 34-10. In his lone year as the team’s 165-pound starter, he was 19-6 but went 0-2 at the national tournament.

As for Steen, he moved up from 125 to 133 pounds this season but served as a backup. He is 19-25 at the college level.

Penn State leads the team race by 11.5 points entering Friday’s first session. The Nittany Lions have all 10 starters in the quarterfinals. Find a full recap below.

Quote of the day

“I have been in contact with them for a while now, but coach Ty Howle called me [on Tuesday] night and we talked for a long time. It was pretty beneficial because he told me a lot more in-depth about the program and himself. He really likes the intangibles, [that I’m a] three-sport athlete and other traits that current Penn State tight ends have.”
