Penn State 2023 target Chimdy Onoh puts Lions in his top four
Penn State continues to pursue high school prospects in the Class of 2023. One of them put the Lions in his top four on Thursday.
Dundalk, Md., three-star offensive tackle Chimdy Onoh has a list of finalists that includes the Lions, Ole Miss, Michigan State, and Rutgers. The 6-foot-6, 270-pound prospect is the No. 35 player at his position in the On3 Consensus player rankings for the current recruiting cycle.
Onoh has yet to take an official visit. But, he has three of them set. The senior will take a 48-hour all-expenses-paid trip to Penn State during the weekend of Jan. 13-15. He will be in East Lansing to see head coach Mel Tucker and the Spartans Jan. 20-22. Finally, the lineman will make a stop in Oxford to see the Rebels Jan. 27-29. He has not previously been to any of those schools. But, he did take an unofficial visit to Piscataway to check out the Scarlet Knights back on Dec. 16.
Previously part of Old Dominion‘s Class of 2023, Onoh backed away from that pledge on Dec. 15 as Power-5 schools started showing interest. Penn State offered on Dec. 18, and the possibility of visiting in January quickly became a reality.
“I know they have a really good football team,” Onoh told BWI in December.
“They’re one of the best in the Big Ten and a good school overall, too. They’re also known for having one of the best O-lines in college football. Those are probably the baseline things I know about them.”

Penn State continues 2023 offensive line push
Penn State already has a terrific offensive line haul in this recruiting cycle. Five-star Reading, Pa., Wyomissing standout Jven Williams, who On3 calls the nation’s No. 6 player in the country, signed back in December along with Ashburn, Va., Broad Run blocker Alex Birchmeier, who is the nation’s No. 50 player overall according to the On3 Consensus player rankings. Aldie, Va., Lightridge three-star Anthony Donkoh is also part of the class.
The Lions plan to try and start all three early enrollees at tackle during spring practice. But, adding another during the late signing period is a priority, as well.
“If you look on the offensive side of the ball, we’d like to get another offensive lineman if we could, specifically an offensive tackle, or a guy that’s like the guys that we signed in this class that have position flexibility,” Penn State coach James Franklin said in December.
“I think you look at Birchmeier, J’ven, maybe Donkoh, I think they can play all five positions in terms of the length to play tackle, the girth to play guard and the intelligence to play center. We’ll see how that plays out.”
Onoh has not yet set a decision timeline. The traditional National Signing Day is Feb. 1.
