Penn State news, notes, and updates for Oct. 5 include a new walk-on addition for the football program plus the 2022-2023 Lions wrestling schedule and much more.

It’s time to dive into Wednesday’s top tweets and headlines about Lions and athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a new walk-on addition for the Penn State football program. The Lions landed Maryland native and Butler Community College defensive back Anthony Robinson. He was called a junior college All-American prior to the season.

“The journey isn’t over,” Robinson wrote on social media. “It’s going to be an unforgettable one for the history, and blessed to do it with Coach Terry [Smith] and Coach [Rashad] Elby. Therefore, I will be continuing my academic and football career at Penn State University.”

In other news, the new Penn State 2022-2023 wrestling schedule is out. The Lions have two matches at the Bryce Jordan Center dates this year. Both are set for January. They will face Michigan on Fri., Jan. 20 and Iowa on Fri., Jan. 27.

Head coach Cael Sanderson talked last February about possibly having more home matches at the BJC. And, now, that is a reality.

“That’s something that we look forward to every year,” Sanderson said. “Each year it becomes and feels more like a home environment, and it’s something we should probably think about, as a program, having more matches over there.”

Finally, for this section, we’ll note that former Penn State standout and Washington Commanders first-round pick Jahan Dotson is set to miss time. He has a hamstring injury.

“I’m hoping [Dotson] caught [the hamstring injury] before it really became something more so,” Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said. “I don’t want to say, ‘out of an abundance of caution,’ but because there was concern, [head athletic trainer Al Bellamy] sat him the rest of the way, so we’re just hoping that that thing will settle down in time and it won’t be anything major that lasts longer than a week or two.”

Quote of the day

“I do think this year, our identity revolves around being more balanced and having the ability to run or pass. I think that’s probably a big adjustment from last year and maybe even previous years, just being more balanced, having the ability to run or pass and keep people honest. That’s what we’re trying to do.”
