Penn State adds a commitment from Ohio TE Brian Kortovich

Penn State has made a late addition to its Class of 2025 just one day before National Signing Day. Cleveland (Ohio) Villa Angela-St. Joseph tight end Brian Kortovich announced his pledge on Tuesday afternoon. He took an official visit to Penn State over the weekend and decommitted from Purdue on Sunday evening.
“The environment was awesome!” Kortovich said of his visit. “Obviously with it being Thanksgiving weekend and the weather, the stadium wasn’t as packed as usual but it did not disappoint.
“What continues to excite me is just the relationships I’ve built in one weekend whether it be with the coaches, the staff or the players.”
Prior to his commitment, Kortovich was a standout at Penn State’s camp in early June. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound prospect is the No. 36 tight end nationally and the No. 26 prospect in Ohio according to the On3 Industry rankings. He’s a four-star prospect by On3’s own rankings, checking in at No. 238 overall and as the No. 13 tight end nationally.

“I put on weight kind of late,” Kortovich told BWI’s Sean Fitz back in the summer after he camped. “I played last season at 195, so my [recruitment] as a tight end kinda started late because of that quick jump. So I had a great workout at school and got in touch with the tight ends coach. He wanted me up on a visit, so we went up [June 1-2]. We toured the campus, did some meetings, had some lunch, went back to the hotel and then went to dinner. We had a great time.
“We met with Coach Franklin at the end and he was just saying they’re really interested in me, they really liked everything about me, my intangibles, just everything going on.”
Kortovich re-emerged on the radar back in September as Nittany Lions tight end coach Ty Howle monitored his progress through his senior season. At the time of his initial decision, he also held scholarship offers from Indiana, Illinois and Northwestern.
