Penn State not only opened up spring football practice this week, but the Nittany Lions also picked up their first commitment since January. Pittsburgh (Pa.) Imani Christian athlete David Davis pledged to James Franklin and his staff while on campus on Tuesday. The four-star prospect became the ninth member of Penn State’s Class of 2026.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound prospect had a list of favorites that also included Cincinnati, Michigan State, Nebraska, Pitt and West Virginia. He was last on campus in Happy Valley for Junior Day on Feb. 1.

“My experience in Happy Valley was really memorable,” Davis said. “The brotherhood and electric energy and the community is so supportive. What excites me most about the Nittany Lions is the chance to be part of such a storied program and the opportunity to grow both on and off the field.”

Davis earned an offer from Penn State assistant coach Terry Smith during his freshman season. Originally, the Nittany Lions saw him as a running back, but that’s shifted some following his junior season, as now defensive back appears to be his primary position in the eyes of Penn State’s staff.

New Penn State commit stands out in all three facets

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Davis has totaled 430 yards of total offense this season, scoring eight touchdowns. He played both ways and was a standout on special teams as well, scoring eight touchdowns on punt and kick returns. Davis missed part of his sophomore season with an injury, but he was a big part of the Saints’ 11-1 season in 2024.

“David Davis is one of the best players in this year’s class and next year’s class,” Imani Christian head coach LaRoi Johnson told BWI. “He is absolutely one of the best football players in the country. I would put my check on the line with him versus anybody. He’s that talented.”

Penn State signed defensive end Dayshaun Burnett out of Imani Christian in the Class of 2025 and the Nittany Lions are also after 2027 athlete Gabriel Jenkins, who will also visit Happy Valley this week. The Nittany Lions’ Class of 2026 came into the day ranked eighth nationally and fourth in the Big Ten, according to the On3 Industry team rankings.
