Penn State adds commitment from New York wide receiver Lyrick Samuel
Penn State is on the board at wide receiver in the Class of 2025. The Nittany Lions added a commitment from Brooklyn (N.Y.) Erasmus Hall wideout Lyrick Samuel on Monday evening. Samuel becomes the program’s 12th pledge in the cycle and fourth of the month.
The 6-foot-3.5, 170-pound prospect made seven visits to Happy Valley in the last year, the most recent of which was for a Junior Day in mid-January. He also attended the Blue-White Game last April, the Lasch Bash barbecue in July and the season-opener against West Virginia to open the 2023 season. Samuel camped for the staff twice last summer.
Samuel reported offers from Michigan State, Rutgers, Syracuse and West Virginia through the process. His connection with the Penn State and his interactions on campus with head coach James Franklin and wide receivers coach Marques Hagans were among the things that drew him to the Nittany Lions.
“Coach Hagans and Coach Franklin are amazing to me,” Samuel said this summer. “They both noticed things about me from our interactions that weren’t on my highlight tape. Also, I am the oldest brother with a little sister and brother that looks up to me. They treated them special, as did everyone on campus.
“They allowed my 8-year-old brother to stay by my side to see where he will be in the near future. I am in the process of getting to know many coaches. Both Coach Hagans and Coach Franklin made me feel like they wanted to get to know Lyrick the person.”
Samuel, who is of no relation to former Erasmus Hall and Ohio State wide receiver Curtis Samuel, is close with current Penn State wideout Josiah Brown. Brown just enrolled at University Park in January and the two go back to their youth football days.

“Me and Josiah Brown are really good friends. We met on the Our Lady of Lourdes track team when I was seven years old. There my dad convinced his mom to allow him to play football with me on the Malverne Wildcats. I was the quarterback and he was one of the wide receivers.
“Even after our journey went two different directions, we still remained close. We currently train together at Speed Island under coach Onix Salva for speed and agility. He has shared many things that I have also experienced at Penn State.”
Samuel caught 27 passes for 693 yards and 11 touchdowns as Erasmus Hall won its fifth-straight PSAL City title in 2023. He caught a pair of touchdowns in the city finals against Tottenville. The year before that, Samuel caught 22 passes for 422 yards and eight touchdowns last season as a sophomore.
A three-star prospect by the On3 Industry rankings, Samuel checks in as the No. 82 wide receiver nationally and the No. 2 prospect in New York in the Class of 2025.
