Penn State stays hot on recruiting trail, adds North Carolina OL Eagan Boyer
Penn State has picked up another coveted offensive line prospect in North Carolina native Eagan Boyer. Listed at 6-foot-8, 260 pounds, Boyer has both the size and the athleticism that offensive line coach Phil Trautwein coveted in this year’s class.
A three-star prospect from Amos Hough in Cornelius, N.C., Boyer earned an offer from Penn State in mid-January. That gave him a little over two months to get to know Trautwein and other members of the staff leading into his April 1 visit to State College. He admitted following that trip that the relationship with Trautwein was a major reason why the Nittany Lions were high on his board.
“I’ve kind of developed a certain way I want to be coached and he definitely matches that,” Boyer said. “He blew us away with his position meeting presentation and the level of detail. He coaches the small stuff hard and as well as anyone I’ve seen yet.”

It also helped that Boyer has family ties to Penn State, as his stepmother graduated from the school. Add in the fact that he wants to major in engineering, a top degree at Penn State, and it makes sense that the Charlotte native would end up a Nittany Lion in the end.
Over the past year, Boyer has earned more than 20 scholarship offers. He’s also visited over a dozen of those schools, including trips in March to Auburn, Clemson, Michigan and Michigan State. Notre Dame, Tennessee and Wisconsin all hosted Boyer and his family in April.

Boyer was expected to take official visits to Auburn and Clemson, although our sources indicated that Tennessee was Penn State’s primary competitor here.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Boyers holds a three-star rating. He’s ranked No. 578 nationally, No. 37 at offensive tackle and No. 16 in the state of North Carolina.
Boyer is now the fourth offensive lineman to join Penn State’s Class of 2024. The Nittany Lions hold two interior offensive line commitments from Cooper Cousins and Donovan Harbour, while offensive tackle Garrett Sexton committed just yesterday. Wyomissing athlete Caleb Brewer also committed to Penn State following the Blue-White Game. Listed at 6-foot-4, 285 pounds, Brewer will likely be a defensive lineman, although we’re listing him as an athlete for the time being.
