Penn State adds former Texas A&M edge rusher Enai White via transfer portal
Penn State head coach James Franklin and his staff continue to focus on the College Football Playoff, but the recruiting staff remains hard at work in the transfer portal to set themselves up for the 2025 season. Now, the Nittany Lions have picked up another key addition, adding former Texas A& defensive end Enai White. The Philadelphia native announced with On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Friday evening.
A Class of 2022 prospect from Imhotep Charter, White was a coveted prospect coming out of high school, totaling more than 40 offers. On3 ranked him as the second-best prospect in Pennsylvania that year and No. 45 nationally. Penn State hosted him for three visits total between 2018 and 2019, but White eventually took official visits to Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State and Texas A&M. He eventually decided between three SEC schools – Alabama, Georgia and Texas A&M – before joining A&M’s 2022 class, which ranked among the best recruiting classes of all-time.

White was able to make an impact during his first season under Jimbo Fisher’s staff at Texas A&M, totaling eight tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack in seven games. He then played in five of the first six games of his sophomore season but ended up suffering a season-ending knee injury in mid-October. Following a coaching change at A&M, new head coach Mike Elko announced at the start of preseason that White was still battling back from his injury.
“Enai White is still banged up,” Elko said at the end of July. “He is still recovering from his knee surgery, so we won’t have him right away but we expect him to be ready for the start of the season.”

Unfortunately for White, it didn’t play out that way during the 2024 season. He played just one snap against Missouri in Week 6 and then eight snaps against New Mexico State in Week 12. One positive from that moving forward is that it did allow White to redshirt this past season, giving him two more seasons of eligibility.
Defensive line coach Deion Barnes is betting on White to make an impact as soon as next year. With Abdul Carter headed to the NFL, plus others out of eligibility, White should help the staff bridge the gap to some of the younger talent they’ve added in recent years. On3’s Transfer Portal Industry Rankings currently rate White as a three-star prospect. He’s ranked No. 295 nationally and is the 30th-best available edge rusher.
