Coatesville (Pa.) linebacker Terry Wiggins established himself as a main player on Penn State’s linebacker board after an offer from the Nittany Lions in the fall. Now he’s a member of James Franklin’s Class of 2026. Wiggins committed to Penn State on Friday on the heels of an unofficial visit last weekend for the Blue-White Game.

“He realized where he needed to be,” said Wiggins’ father, Terence. “Sometimes, the recruiting process can become overwhelming and he’s not necessarily a kid who likes a lot of attention. It can become a lot, so if you’re 100 percent sure where you want to be, why not end it?”

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect took an official visit to Kentucky in April and had official visits scheduled to Cincinnati and Syracuse for the summer. Boston College, Maryland, Michigan State, Missouri, Virginia Tech and others offered as well. Wiggins also visited Penn State for a Junior Day in January and came away with strong feelings about staying in the Keystone State.

“Coach Franklin was talking a lot about how the best players in PA stay in PA,” Wiggins said. “But more than that, he was also saying for me to make sure I take my time with the process. That’s what everybody from Penn State has been preaching to me. They want me to make sure that I find the right school that best fits me.

“But they were also making sure that I knew I was a top priority. They let me know that I’m really wanted at Penn State, which is a big thing for me. I want to make sure I go to the school where I feel like I’m most wanted.”

New Penn State commit considered a four-star prospect by On3 and the Industry

Wiggins was recently elevated to four-star status by On3. He carries a four-star rating according to the On3 Industry rankings and checks in as the nation’s No. 313 overall prospect, the No. 21 linebacker and the No. 10 prospect in Pennsylvania. In On3’s own rankings, Wiggins is No. 221 overall, the No. 15 linebacker and No. 6 in Pennsylvania.

With Wiggins’ commitment, Penn State now has five of the top 10 prospects in Pennsylvania committed in the Class of 2026, according to the On3 Industry rankings. Wiggins, who slots at No. 10 in those rankings, joins No. 1 Kevin Brown, No. 4 Messiah Mickens, No. 5 Peyton Falzone and No. 6 Matt Sieg in the top 10. Pittsburgh athlete David Davis currently checks in at No. 11.

Wiggins attended a Junior Day in January

Wiggins’ trip back in January gave him an opportunity to see a side of Penn State that he couldn’t check out during his previous visit, which was for the White Out win over Washington in November. His main takeaway was with the Nittany Lions’ facilities.

“Seeing their facilities was really cool to me,” he said. “I got to see how Penn State breeds the best players in the country between their weight room, their nutrition room, their meeting rooms. That was all very cool for me to see all their facilities. I was excited to get up there and tour everything. It didn’t disappoint.”

Penn State now has 14 commitments in the Class of 2026. The group ranked ninth nationally entering Friday.
