Penn State football adds more walk-ons; latest from Lions at all-star games: Newsstand
A busy day for the Penn State football program is underway.
The traditional signing day is here, and the Lions are hoping to sign two prospects before all is said and done. You’re going to want to stay tuned to the BWI homepage and Lions Den forum for the latest news throughout the morning.
Then, around lunchtime, head coach James Franklin will speak with reporters for the first time since the 2021 season ended with a loss in the Outback Bowl.
Today’s newsstand covers all that, new walk-ons, and plenty more. Let’s get to the top tweets and headlines about Penn State and college football on Feb. 2.
Penn State tweets of the day
We start with more new walk-ons.
If you’re a regular reader of the newsstand, then you’ll realize Penn State has been adding preferred walk-ons at a regular clip over the last handful of days. That’s normal at this time of year. Players are at the point of needing to decide whether they want to accept a lower-level FBS or FCS offer, or maybe a Division-II scholarship, instead of paying their way to play in the Big Ten.
At any rate, two more prep prospects now fall into those who plan to do the latter.
Watertown, Conn., Taft School offensive lineman Dominic Rulli will walk on at PSU. So, too, will Downingtown defensive lineman Samuel Siafa.

In other news, Penn State staffers, including Franklin, made their way to Mobile, Ala., on Tuesday. There, they were able to take in a Senior Bowl practice, of course.
Following it, they posed for a photo with ends Arnold Ebiketie and Jesse Luketa plus corner Tariq-Castro Fields. Specialist Jordan Stout is also playing in the game but was not in the photo. Two other former Lions, receiver Jahan Dotson and safety Jaquan Brisker, accepted invites to play in the all-star game but opted out.
Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday on NFL Network.
Finally, you can read more about it at the links below, but Penn State is hoping to land two signatures today. One would be from commit and Lackawanna College safety Tyrece Mills. The other would come from three-star uncommitted offensive lineman Vega Ioane.

Quote of the day
“His drive for academic success, I think it’s really kind of helped shape him as a football player as well. This kid just wants to be good at everything he does. He’s always been a kid that’s really driven to find success, and I think he’s gonna have a whole lot of success in football up at Penn State. No matter what he does after college, I have no doubt that he’ll be successful.”
