Penn State adds handful of four-star prospects following updated Class of 2025 rankings
Tight end Andrew Olesh’s bump to a five-star player grabbed the attention of fans on Thursday, but he was far from the only Penn State signee who made a positive move when On3 finalized its player ratings for the Class of 2025. In addition to the eight players who landed in the On300, there were also four more players who saw their rating climb to 90 overall, making them a four-star prospect by On3.
Coming into the final update, Penn State’s class was recognized as having 10 players who held a four-star rating by On3. That’s now climbed to 12 four-stars – plus Olesh as a five-star – as linebacker Lavar Arrington II, wide receiver Matthew Outten, edge rusher Dayshaun Burnett and running back Tiqwai Hayes were all upgraded to 90 overall ratings, making them four-star prospects. The only player who dropped to a three-star was wide receiver Lyrick Samuel. He now has an 89 overall rating.
All four are notable, but it’s Outten’s upgrade is a four-star player that’ll likely stand out the most to fans. Before he enrolled at Penn State, Outten ran a 6.49-second 55-meter time for I.C. Norcom’s indoor track team. That was second-best behind former Penn State recruit and Michigan signee Kainoa Winston. It’s also not far off the 6.45-second time that 2026 cornerback recruit Khary Adams recently ran. BWI’s Sean Fitz elaborated on Outten earlier this week in a notebook.

“Outten has been a curious evaluation. He was insanely high on Penn State’s board for his playmaking ability at wideout,” Fitz wrote. “But his high school film doesn’t show a refined route runner or a technician on the outside. He’s more running back playing wideout, but that’s a compliment. How quickly he can get up to speed is still a point of conversation as his career begins. But to have the physical box checked is a big deal moving forward. He was among my favorite, if not on top of my personal rankings in the Class of 2025, and I’m excited for his development heading into spring football.”

Burnett, who committed to Penn State almost a year ago, actually made the biggest move of the four, climbing from an 88-rated three-star to a 90 overall. Playing multiple roles defensively, he finished with 75 tackles, 21 quarterback hurries, 11.5 sacks and eight pass breakups. The Imani Christian prospect also totaled 664 yards of offense and 12 touchdowns. Most of that came as a tight end, totaling 34 receptions for 564 yards and nine receiving touchdowns.
Arrington was primarily an edge rusher for Charter Oak this past season, totaling 45 tackles, 6.5 sacks and 15 quarterback hurries. In three seasons, he finished with 145 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 19 sacks and 24 quarterback hurries. Hayes missed some time this season with a knee sprain but still rushed for 1,120 yards and 10 touchdowns in just five games for Aliquippa. He finished his high school career with 7,011 yards rushing and 92 touchdowns.
