Penn State adds SEC offensive lineman TJ Shanahan to transfer portal haul
Penn State is adding another player to its transfer portal haul ahead of the 2025 season. Former Texas A.M. offensive lineman TJ Shanahan picked the Lions on Friday. He announced the news on social media a week after taking a visit to State College to meet the Nittany Lions coaching staff. He is the program’s fourth transfer portal commitment to date.
The 6-foot-4, 315-pound prospect projects as an interior offensive lineman for the Nittany Lions. He played in 10 games in 2024 for the Aggies as a redshirt freshman, starting five games. An injury kept him out of two contests.
Shanahan entered the Transfer Portal in December and will have three years remaining at Penn State. He played both guard and center at Texas A&M.
Longtime Penn State offensive line coach Phil Trautwein has connections to coaches who have had Shanahan in their program before. That surely helped this process along. His versatility is key, as the Lions could lose center Nick Dawkins and guard Sal Wormley. The former has a COVID year left if he wants to use it. The latter would need a medical waiver to return. And, it’s not clear if he’s applies for that or not.

Enai White was next to pick Penn State. The former Texas A&M defensive lineman who stands 6-foot-5, 245 pound, did so on Dec. 20. Injuries hampered his time in College Station. But, he still brings 11 tackles and two sacks over two years plus multiple years of eligibility to State College.
