Penn State again listed as one of college football's teams most like to make the Playoff: Newsstand

Penn State tweets of the day
With Week 1 of the college football season officially underway, ESPN’s team of writers and experts made their picks for the College Football Playoff. Fourteen of 15 panelists project Penn State to make the inaugural 12-team postseason tournament (only senior writer Ryan McGee left them out). Quarterfinal projects are not part of the picks. But, data extraordinary Bill Connelly is the only member of the group to send the Nittany Lions all the way to the semifinals. He does not have them making it to the championship game, however.
In other news, ESPN analyst Field Yates put out his first 2025 NFL Draft board this week. He has Nittany Lions edge rusher Abdul Carter at No. 16, making him the latest draftnik to suggest the junior will be a first round pick next spring.
“Carter is in some ways still a projection,” Yates writes. “While he has already put together good tape as an inside linebacker, he will be featured on the edge this season for the Nittany Lions — who saw both Chop Robinson and Adisa Isaac get drafted this past April. He’s quick and sudden, with the pursuit skills to be a force behind the line of scrimmage (22 pressures and 4.5 sacks last season at LB).”

Quote of the day
“I think the progress he’s made is just picking up the offense. Obviously, he enrolled early. That was huge. Coming to college, even when I did it, I thought that was the hardest piece and how fast the game is. It’s slowed down for him. He’s done a really nice job of learning his assignments and knowing what to do.
“The biggest progression has been mentally handling all the things we do with our tight ends. We’re very versatile with the tight end position. He’s done a nice job handling those things.”
