Prospects who attended the NFL Combine but did not work out for medical reasons were back in Indianapolis on Tuesday for re-checks. The list of attendees included Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter. He did not work out at the Combine or Pro Day due to a shoulder injury he suffered during the Lions’ College Football Playoff run. However, during his last trip to Lucas Oil Stadium, a routine exam found a stress fracture in his foot. At the time, his management team expressed little concern about it and said surgery would not be necessary. The latest information regarding the situation confirms their original read on the situation.

“Abdul Carter’s medical recheck in Indianapolis today showed that the stress reaction in his foot is healing, there has been improvement and no surgery will be needed, per his agent Drew Rosenhaus,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on Twitter Thursday. In a statement to ESPN, Rosenhaus said: “It should be a non-factor with the teams at this point.”

Carter, who said at Pro Day that “I’m pretty close to 100 percent. Closest I’ve been in a long time,”
continues to project as a top-three pick. He is visiting with the New York Giants this weekend. In other Lions alumni news, safety Jaylen Reed visited the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.

Quote of the day

“One of the things that stood out was the level of intensity at practice. Everything they do is about competition between offense and defense, so they are able to constantly push each other. The second would be the coaches and time they take to prepare. Every coach makes sure every player is on the same page. They also equally hold the leaders of the team accountable at all times.”
