Penn State news, notes, and updates for Jan. 21 include a 2025 projection for former Nittany Lion Olu Fashanu, headlines of the day, and more. It’s time to dive into Tuesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

With just three games left in the 2024 NFL season, Pro Football Focus is making its breakout candidate picks for each pro football team in 2025. Fashanu is the selection for the New York Jets. The rookie took something of a redshirt year this fall but played more down the stretch of the regular season. A foot injury cut his season short. But, he should be ready to rock and roll for training camp, at the very least, if not OTAs later this year.

Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses are free agents this offseason, which means that both probably won’t return,” Bradley Locker writes. “That may not be a negative thing, because the Jets have Fashanu waiting in the wings. The Penn State product generated only a 61.2 PFF overall grade in his first year, but his allowing of only one sack on 372 pass-blocking snaps — while playing left tackle, right tackle and even right guard — is a sign of things to come.”

Fashanu is not one of the Nittany Lions left chasing after a Super Bowl victory this year, of course. That list is now down to Chiefs lineman Hunter Nourzad, Commanders receiver Mitchell Tinsley, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields, and receiver Jahan Dotson, and a handful of Buffalo Bills, including receiver KJ Hamler, cornerback Daequan Hardy, defensive tackle Austin Johnson, defensive lineman DaQuan Jones, and offensive lineman Connor McGovern.

“I love their quarterback coach Coach O’Brien. Last few times I talked to him when I’ve been up there, he’s been really personal with me talking over game film. That’s why I like him.”
