Penn State alum Robbie Gould announces NFL retirement; KeAndre Lambert-Smith lands NIL deal: Newsstand
Penn State news, notes, and updates for Dec. 8 include the end of Robbie Gould’s NFL career, a new NIL deal for a current Nittany Lion, and more.
It’s time to dive into Friday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.
Penn State tweets of the day
We start with Robbie Gould. The Penn State letterman is retiring from the NFL. Over 18 NFL seasons, he had a career field-goal percentage of 86.5 and extra-point conversion rate of 97.5 percent. Gould earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2006 and also made the Pro Bowl that year.
“As the football chapter, this ‘good thing,’ comes to an end, it also opens a door for new endeavors that come my way,” Gould wrote in a column for The Players Tribune. “Charity work is an integral part of my core values, and I’m looking forward to pursuing more opportunities to give back. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t also thinking about all of the golf courses I’ve yet to visit. And in my book, a Little League position titled ‘Coach Rob’ has a pretty nice ring to it.”
In other news, Penn State receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith has a new name, image, and likeness deal. The Nittany Lion receiver is one of six college football players who have signed brand deals with Accelerator Active Energy. They are partnering with AAE brand ambassador Deestroying, who, according to a news release, “is an Accelerator brand ambassador and he is forming his own team of NIL athletes to get deals with the brand, inclusive of paid social posts and production time with Deestroying.” Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Quote of the day
“They came over and we had some food for a little bit and then sat down and chatted. We talked about Penn State a lot and the bowl game that we’re in. They’re excited about that. I talked to them about what they’re doing right now and what their schedule is looking like with bowl prep and everything.
“They also had us ask some more personal questions, things to know about the [January] move-in and what the dorms are going to be like, things like that…But they probably spent an hour and a half here. It was a lot of small talk and just catching up.”
