CBS Sports’ Carter Bahns focused in on the 12 teams generating the most hype during the college football offseason. Penn State is one of them. Head coach James Franklin’s program is among the favorites to win this year’s Playoff following a strong roster retention effort in January before a successful pair of portal windows later in the year.

“There might not have been a bigger winner from the NFL Draft stay-or-go deadline than Penn State, which followed the same model that led Ohio State and Michigan to national championships the last two seasons,” Bahns writes. “That is, the Nittany Lions kept their best draft-eligible underclassmen in the program to create a loaded, veteran core. Drew Allar, Nick SingletonKaytron AllenDani Dennis-Sutton, Nick Dawkins and Dominic DeLuca were among the starters to utilize another year of eligibility. In turn, the expectation is that Penn State will contend for another CFP semifinals trip … or better.”

None of the Lions’ 2025 opponents made the list.
