Penn State and Day 1 of the NFL Draft: Time and TV info, where Joey Porter Jr., might go, more
Day one and round one of the 2023 NFL Draft are both here. Penn State is hopeful program history will be made tonight in Kansas City, Mo.
The Nittany Lions will have cornerback Joey Porter Jr., on hand for the first 31 picks (Miami was forced to forfeit theirs) at Union Station. Mock drafts have called him a first-round pick for month. If proven correct, he will be the first defensive back in Penn State history to go that early during the pro selection process. The highest-drafted defensive back in Lions lore currently is Jaquan Brisker. The safety went No. 48 overall last year, which is a round two selection.
“It feels great to fall in that line with other great athletes that went to Penn State, and I could follow up and be the next,” Porter Jr., said at Pro Day. “Since a young age, I’ve been watching this and watch people walk across that stage. So, I’m definitely happy I could put on that hat and hold the little jersey. So, yeah, I’m excited.”
As for setting a new precedent in the program’s cornerbacks room, that excites the Pittsburgh native, too.
“I’m going to go down in history at Penn State. So, that’s something I can come back and show my kids that. Definitely a special moment. I’m going to be the first [first-round defensive back picked out of Penn State], and really just set the tone for what’s coming behind me.”

Which Penn State players are still on the board?
All of them, of course. We project a handful of former Nittany Lions to go off the board this weekend. For reference throughout the weekend, this section will be updated daily with who remains from the program’s Pro Day participants list. It included:
IOL Juice Scruggs
DT PJ Mustipher
Safety Ji’Ayir Brown
Kicker Jake Pinegar
Long snapper Chris Stoll
Punter Barney Amor
Who is expected to be picked today?
Only Porter Jr., of course. However, the range of options as to where he will end up feels unlimited.
One media mock draft suggests the cornerback will land in the top 10 via a trade that allows the Las Vegas Raiders to pick seventh. Another has him going as late as pick No. 28 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals. We sent him to Seattle with the No. 20 overall selection. And, the NFL Mock Draft database calls the consensus choice the Washington Commanders, who have the No. 16 overall pick to start the day.
