Penn State announces 2025 'Return to Rec' date, opponent
Penn State basketball is heading back to Rec Hall. Announced on Wednesday afternoon, the Nittany Lions will meet Ohio State at the famed venue across campus from the Bryce Jordan Center on Thursday, Jan. 30. A tip time and television arrangements have not yet been determined.
The news arrives just six days after the Big Ten unveiled the conference schedules for its 18 participating programs this season.
With it, head coach Mike Rhoades and his program, now entering year two of his stewardship, have an opportunity to recreate the boost that emerged from last season’s one-off. Describing the atmosphere as “awesome” and “tremendous” in the aftermath of the win, Rhoades saw it as a program building event.

“I’ll play anywhere, anytime. That’s how we’ll roll,” said Rhoades. “Let’s think outside the box for Penn State basketball. Let’s not do the old, the norm. Let’s be different, let’s go around the state and play, let’s go around the Mid-Atlantic region and play. Play anybody and figure it out.
“But man, this was old school. This was like check it up and let’s go play in a hot gym, which is what it’s all about, which is a lot of fun. So I hope we can. I hope we can. But that’s more of an administrative question and their direction but they’re thinking outside the box, too. And I appreciate that.”
