Penn State news, notes, and updates for July 14 include an accomplishment for Lions assistant Marques Hagans, plus the strength staff’s players of the week and much more.
It’s time to dive into Friday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.
Penn State tweets of the day
We start with an accomplishment for first-year Penn State assistant coach Marques Hagans. The Virginia alum and longtime Cavaliers assistant who joined the Lions earlier this year has completed the NCAA’s Champion Forum for Football.
“Ethnic minority assistant coaches who have been identified as rising stars in the industry are selected for the Champion Forum for Football, which aims to provide a realistic view of what it takes to become a head coach,” the NCAA writes. “NCAA leadership development holds Champion Forums for men’s and women’s basketball coaches as well.”
Four other coaches were a part of the Forum, but Hagans was the lone one from the Big Ten. See the full group in the tweet below.

Quote of the day
“I think last season, I definitely got better as the year went on. I got comfortable, especially in the Big Ten, to know how I fit in. And I know what’s my role and what type of player I could be. So, I’m really looking forward to this year.
“They want to play in space this year. So, just how unpredictable I am. I can get to the rim, I got a good mid-range jumper, and my three ball has been improving. I’ve been getting the reps in. That’s how I fit in.”
