Penn State news, notes, and updates for March 16 include a huge Thursday ahead for the Nittany Lions in multiple sports, plus news about former running back Miles Sanders.

It’s time to dive into Thursday’s top tweets and headlines about the Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with what may be the biggest March Thursday in the history of Penn State athletics. That is probably hyperbole. But, maybe not.

In Des Moines, Iowa, head coach Micah Shrewsberry’s men’s team opens NCAA Tournament play as the 10th seed opposite No. 7 Texas A&M. Andy Katz of NCAA.com calls the Lions a “darkhorse” candidate to make the Final Four along with four other programs. First, though, they must top the Aggies as 2.5-point underdogs.

Meanwhile, in Tulsa, Okla, Cael Sanderson’s Nittany Lions wrestling team is the favorite to win the NCAA Championships, which starts at Noon ET Thursday and runs through Saturday night, when the finals are contested.

Last but not least, in Knoxville, Tenn., Nittany Lions diver Daphne Willis is at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. She’ll compete in the 1 Meter dive Thursday and the 3 Meter dive Friday. Willis is the first woman to make NCAAs from Penn State in 18 years.

Finally, for this section, we’ll note that Miles Sanders has a new NFL home. After playing 57 games over his first four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Penn State alum and Pittsburgh native is headed to the Carolina Panthers. Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Quote of the day

“We just tune them up a little bit the week before, finish off and top off their conditioning. But for the most part, they’re ready to roll Right. It’s consistency, and just being the same person all the time. We’re going to be back in here [next] Monday, as coaches, you know, some of these guys will be in here too. You just don’t get too high or low and just give your best effort every day. That’s what we do as a program.”
