Penn State availability report: Who is out or questionable for the Delaware game?
Penn State football has released its Big Ten mandated availability report ahead of today’s Noon ET matchup with Delaware on Peacock. Every team in the league is required to release a look at which players won’t suit up and which ones are questionable to play at least two hours before every kickoff.
The following Nittany Lions are out for this Week 2 clash: receiver Malick Meiga, receiver Tyler Johnson, defensive end Amin Vanover, cornerback Daequan Hardy, afety Jashaun Green, defensive end Mason Robinson, defensive tackle Alonzo Ford Jr., offensive lineman Ian Harvie, offensive tackle Landon Tengwall, offensive lineman Jim Fitzgerald, defensive end Smith Vilbert, and defensive tackle Coziah Izzard.
These Nittany Lions are questionable to play in the non-conference matchup: Receiver Omari Evans and quarterback Karson Kiesewetter
Penn State is not required to reveal a reason for why a player shows up on this list. And, being listed as out today does not necessarily mean a player is out for the remainder of the season.
Comparing Penn State Week 2 and Week 1 availability reports
Penn State listed receiver Tyler Johnson, defensive end Amin Vanover, cornerback Daequan Hardy, running back DK Kency, safety Jashaun Green, defensive end Mason Robinson, defensive tackle Alonzo Ford Jr., offensive lineman Ian Harvie, offensive tackle Landon Tengwall, offensive lineman Jim Fitzgerald, defensive end Smith Vilbert, and defensive tackle Coziah Izzard as OUT for Week 1. Receiver Omari Evans and quarterback Karson Kiesewetter were questionable.
Evans did not play despite warming up before the West Virginia game. He practiced this week, however. It is an encouraging sign.
The Lions will again be without Vanover, Izzard, and Vilbert along the defensive line and Hardy will be out of the secondary for the second straight contest.

Sizing up Delaware
Head coach James Franklin was not asked about the Blue Hens at either of his first two availabilities of the week. However, the non-conference foe, which is No. 19 in the latest FCS Coaches Poll, did come up during the Penn State Coaches Show broadcast on Thursday night.
“Their head coach is the offensive coordinator. That’s what his background is,” Franklin told host Steve Jones. “In a lot of the smaller schools like this, sometimes it makes sense for the head coach to call the offense or the defense. They don’t even have anybody with the title. In most places, even if the head coach calls the offense, someone has the title. They want to throw it,” Franklin said. “On top of that, you’re gonna get every trick in the book. Reverses, double-reverse, double passes, muddle huddles. Everything you could possibly imagine, they like to do it.
“And we’ve been able to study, not only them from this season, but also to go back to last year as well. They’ve got a few transfer portal guys, but not as much as what we faced last week. So we got a pretty good idea of who they are.”
The Penn State coach also discussed the Blue Hens’ defense.
“Defensively, they’re kind of the same way. They’re unorthodox,” Franklin said. “A little bit of a combination of odd-front, maybe from the Al Groh tree. And then also a little bit of the Iowa State, three-safety look.
“So you’re gonna see three down linemen predominantly. And then a mix of six defensive backs and different looks.”
