Penn State basketball to take part in 2022-23 Charleston Classic
Penn State basketball announced Tuesday afternoon that it will make up part of the eight-team field for next season’s Charleston Classic.
The event will take place inside Charleston’s TD Arena from November 17-20.
The following seven teams comprise the rest of the field:
-Charleston (150th in KenPom this season)
-Colorado State (33rd)
-Davidson (45th)
-Old Dominion (187th)
-South Carolina (96th)
-Virginia Tech (29th)
-Furman (74th)
It’s unclear as of this point who the Nittany Lions will play at the event.
The official bracket and television information are set to be released this summer. Tickets will become available following that announcement.
Harrar is All-Big Ten Honorable Mention
Penn State senior forward John Harrar is wrapping his career as a Nittany Lion with honors.
For the second time, Harrar nabbed All-Big Ten honorable mention recognition, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. No other Penn State players were among the All-Big Ten first, second, or third teams revealed via Twitter.
As a super senior, Harrar has produced his best performance at Penn State.
In a career-high 26.9 minutes per game, Harrar has averaged a double-double through the season. His 10.5 points are fourth in scoring while his 10.3 rebounds are tops on the team.
Would Penn State accept a CBI bid?
With the NIT and NCAA Tournament now all but out of reach, Shrewsberry was asked Monday if he would consider a College Basketball Invitational (CBI) bid if it came his way.
“I’d leave it up to those guys,” Shrewsberry said. “If they want to keep playing, I’d owe it to them to keep preparing and keep trying.”
The Nittany Lions partook in the CBI in 2014, besting Hampton before falling to eventual champion Siena.

Shrewsberry noted that the CBI often appeals to programs full of developing young players, and he doesn’t necessarily feel like Penn State fits that description with a roster full of seniors and fifth-years.
“This team’s a little different than other teams,” Shrewsberry said. “Some of those tournaments you play in if you want to get experience for a reason, right? Things like that. You’ve got a bunch of younger dudes like, ‘Hey, we got a chance next to be really good, let’s keep playing.
“Our team’s a little different. We’re not really in our boat.”
Still, Shrewsberry said he’d leave the choice with his veterans. John Harrar, Greg Lee, Jaheam Cornwall and Jalanni White are each out of eligibility after this season. Myles Dread, Sam Sessoms and Jalen Pickett are seniors but can return.
“If they want to keep playing, I’d love to do it for them, but our team is so different from the normal team, you kind of leave it up to the hands of those older guys,” Shrewsberry said.
