Penn State football is 2-0 after beating Ohio 46-10 on Saturday at Beaver Stadium. The Nittany Lions rolled up tons of yards on offense and were very good on defense in the non-conference victory.
“Obviously, we were able to get some explosive plays in the running game, which was helpful,” head coach James Franklin said after the game. “We were able to get a win, we were able to gain a ton of experience for a bunch of players.
“We were able, for the most part, to keep our guys healthy and fresh so we can have a great week this week and take the next step as a program.”
Next up for the Lions is Auburn. The Tigers are also 2-0 after beating Mercer and San Jose State. Head coach Bryan Harsin said his SEC team is focusing on itself as much as it is Penn State prior to a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Jordan-Hare Stadium this coming weekend.
“Penn State has a really good team,” Auburn edge Derick Hall said. “Coach (James) Franklin does a really good job of getting his team prepared and ready to play.

“Obviously we fell short, but this team feels like we owe them. Now they’re coming to Jordan-Hare and it’s time for us to show them what this 2022 football team is all about.”
Penn State is aiming to return to a New Year’s Six bowl for the first time since 2019. The Lions are located in bowl projections across the country after their perfect start. Where are they slotted now? Let’s take a look.
Penn State bowl projections after Week 2
Here’s a rundown:
Jerry Palm, CBS Sports: Penn State in the Orange Bowl vs. Clemson.
Richard Johnson, SI: Lions in the Orange Bowl vs. Clemson
Brett McMurphy: Penn State vs. Tennesse in the Citrus Bowl.
Mark Schlabach, ESPN: Lions vs. Florida in the Music City Bowl.
Kyle Bonagura, ESPN: Penn State vs. Tennesse in the Citrus Bowl.
College Football News: Lions vs. Florida in the Orange Bowl.
Where will the Lions end up?
It’s obviously very early in the season. So, these predictions will change greatly between now and December. But, they are fun to track as the weeks go by.
Right now, it’s easy to see the Lions being 5-0 heading into the bye week if it gets by Auburn. The Tigers did not look good. So, if they can get by this week’s foe, then they will just need to beat Central Michigan and Northwestern before a week off in October. That would have Penn State firmly in the mix for a New Year’s Six bowl. We’ll see how it plays out. But, so far, so good, for James Franklin’s Nittany Lions.
