Where will the Lions end up?
This week will tell us all we need to know. With a win over Michigan, Penn State could find itself in the College Football Playoff conversation by this time next week. If it loses as a 4.5-point home underdog, then the Lions would need to win out to make a New Year’s Six bowl that is not a CFP semifinal. Without spoiling our predictions post later in the week, we’ll simply project that the Lions will end up in one of the NY6 games. Which one, though, is not worth picking prior to seeing the outcome of this week’s matchup.
“The signal-stealing allegation story has sucked much of the oxygen out of any discussion involving Michigan, but this is a huge week for the Wolverines on the field no matter what happens off it,” On3’s Andy Staples writes. “Michigan’s visit to Penn State will set up the stakes for the final weeks of Big Ten play. A Michigan win opens the possibility of the league getting two teams into the College Football Playoff. A Penn State win probably puts the league in position to get just one team into the CFP, but it makes it a three-team race instead of a two-team one.”
