Penn State news, notes, and updates for April 29 include a recap of the spring transfer portal window’s winners and losers, headlines of the day, and more. It’s time to dive into Tuesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

CBS Sports’ Richard Johnson put together a list of winners and losers from the 10-day spring transfer portal window. The Nittany Lions came out on the positive side of that equation thanks to their lone addition as of Tuesday morning.

“On the last day the portal was formally open, the Nittany Lions added standout Syracuse wide receiver Trebor Pena,” Johnson writes. “In addition to Devonte Ross and Kyron Hudson, Pena gives a massive boost to a key position of need for Penn State as they head into a crucial season chasing an elusive national title.”

Pena caught 84 passes for 941 yards and nine touchdowns last season in the Orange’s pass-heavy attack. He, Ross, and Hudson make up the first three-man Penn State portal class at the same position in the program’s history.

Penn State 2025 opponent UCLA also made Johnson’s list of winners.

“It was a rocky road to get here, but adding Nico Iamaleava is a position upgrade for the Bruins at quarterback,” he writes. “Pair him with Cal’s leading rusher last season, Jaivian Thomas, and the Bruins did get better on the field by taking proper advantage of two of the higher-profile transfer sagas in the sport at both Tennessee and Cal.”

Quote of the day

“Penn State is definitely one of my top schools,” Jones said. “Getting an offer from them was truly a bucket list moment for me. I’ve always looked at Penn State as one of the premier programs in the country. The visit was incredible and the passion their fans and supporters show for football is unmatched. Penn State checks every box I’m looking for. I also really enjoyed building relationships with the coaches and having the chance to connect with Coach [James] Franklin. This offer means a lot to me and is truly a blessing.”
