Penn State football broke training camp this week, but Blue White Illustrated has extended camp highlights to share with fans before the team heads into Week One of the 2022 regular season. Penn State’s running backs are the focus of today’s look into camp, thanks to comments coach Ja’Juan Seider made earlier this week. You’ll see work from Nick Singleton, Kaytron Allen, and starter Keyvone Lee today.

Seider spoke with the media earlier this week about the explosiveness of his freshman, Singleton. Before getting to the five-star pupil, Seider insisted that the veteran, Lee, had changed how he worked this offseason to add that element to his game.

“I challenged him this year to change some of his habits. You know, change his body tone, get faster, get leaner, [and] run with a different demeanor. I think he did that for us this offseason. The last scrimmage he had, he ran with some authority; he’s fast. He doesn’t get enough credit for how fast he is. I know last year, a couple of times he broke out, probably felt like he got caught. I think this year will be a different story for him.”

But as for Singleton, check out the video to hear how Seider described his running style. While the coaching staff may try to tamp down the excitement for Singleton, it’s not working very well. He was named to On3’s preseason true freshman All-American team last week, and earned the same honor from ESPN soon after.

Starting safety and Penn State team leader Ji’Ayir Brown is also a fan of Singleton after watching him work in person this winter and summer,

“I think Nick power cleaned about 375 and he shows it on the field. His breakaway speed is crazy. Once Nick gets in the open field, there’s no stopping him. This guy, he’s extremely fast and extremely talented and he’s ready to go as well,” he said earlier in camp.

The video also focuses on backup tackle Bryce Effner and his work this summer, returning from an injury earlier in the year. A quiet group this summer is the wide receiver position. While the starters remain the same, the video focuses on young players working on their game. Those players include four-star receivers Kaden Saunders, Tyler Johnson, and Anthony Ivey.

Finally, Blue White Illustrated focuses on the quarterbacks to close out camp. Reports have all been good about five-star passer Drew Allar, second-string quarterback Christian Veilleux and three-star scrapper Beau Pribula.
