Penn State commit Ethan Grunkemeyer accepts invite to Under Armour All-America game
Penn State commit Ethan Grunkemeyer will play in the 2024 Under Armour All-America game. The Lewis Center, Ohio Olentangy High passer accepted his invitation on Monday after receiving it earlier this month. His profile has risen rapidly this offseason, starting with a strong performance at the Elite 11 regional event in State College. After punching his ticket to the finals there, Grunkemeyer was picked by the event’s organizers as one of the top 11 throwers at the event, which places him in the prestigious Elite 11 fraternity.
The On3 Industry Rankings call Grunkemeyer, who picked the Lions on May 20, 2023, a four-star who is the No. 203 player overall in this cycle, the No. 13 quarterback, and No. 8 player in Ohio. On3’s own rankings have the senior-to-be inside of the On300 at No. 175 overall and as the No. 10 passer. It also calls him the No. 8 player in his home state.
On3 director of scouting Charles Power raved about Grunkemeyer all spring and summer and called him the Day 1 MVP and No. 3 quarterback over all at the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles, Calif.
“Ethan Grunkemeyer was the most pleasant surprise at the Elite 11 Finals,” Power wrote. “We entered the event having liked what we saw on video from his junior season and previous camps. With that said, the Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy product exceeded expectations. Grunkemeyer finished third in On3’s Top Performers from the event.

“He was the On3 MVP on Day 1, showing fluid, explosive ability as a passer. He continued to impress on the final two days. The Penn State pledge drove the ball down the middle of the field as well as any quarterback in attendance. The ball came out of his hand hot. We also liked his coordinated movement patterns. He was smooth in his drops and looked to have arguably the best mechanics on hand.”
Ethan Grunkemeyer becomes latest Penn State commit to play in the UA All-American game
Grunkemeyer is the first Penn State quarterback commit to prepare to play in the Under Armour All-American game since now former Nittany Lion Michael Johnson Jr., did so in 2019. Sean Clifford played in it in 2017, as well. The program was last represented in the game at any position by offensive lineman Drew Shelton, running back Kaytron Allen, and receiver Kaden Saunders back in 2022. He gave numerous reasons for picking Penn State back in May.
“I think I really fit in with their culture and their personalities,” Grunkemeyer said. “They have a lot of good quarterback minds in their room. Coach [Danny] O’Brien and Coach Yurcich both played the position and are really good coaches. I feel like I really fit in and can learn a lot from them.”
