Penn State commit Ethan Grunkemeyer hits On3 top three at Elite 11 Day 2; tight end Luke Reynolds earns praise, too
Penn State quarterback commit Ethan Grunkemeyer continues to put himself in position to join the prestigious Elite 11 fraternity. The Lewis Center, Ohio Class of 2024 recruit, who was On3’s MVP on Day 1 and No. 10 in the opinion of the event’s evaluators after day one, checked in at No. 3 overall in On3’s rankings after Thursday’s Day 2 session, which featured a Pro Day challenge among other tests for the 20 passers on hand.
Ethan Grunkemeyer backed up his On3 MVP showing from Day 1 with another strong evening,” On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power writes. “The Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy signal caller continued to flash the natural, loose arm and plus velocity. Grunkemeyer had a handful of highlight throws and drove the ball to the boundary with ease.
“There’s a pop to his arm and second life on his throws that is noticeable in this setting. He paired the arm talent with coordinated and functional footwork and strong accuracy. We charted the Penn State pledge as accurate on 17 of the 20 passes. He got stronger as the script moved on, which is another positive takeaway.”
Added Power in the On3 Day 2 Elite 11 live blog:
” It was a really nice session for Penn State commit Ethan Grunkemeyer. We charted him as accurate on 17 of 20 passes. He settled in and finished very strong, gaining confidence throughout. He’s a coordinated, twitchy passer with second life and zip on his throws. The Elite 11 staff score for Grunkemeyer was 42.”

The Elite 11 camp evaluators will release their top 11 after Day 2 at some point before Friday’s final workout, which begins at 1 p.m. ET. By dinner time on the east coast, Grunkemeyer will know whether or not he has made the final Elite 11 standings.
Penn State tight end commit earns a shout out, too
While the Elite 11 is quarterback-focused, someone has to be on hand catching the thrower’s passes. One of those players is Penn State commit Luke Reynolds. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound On3 Industry Ranking four-star has drawn praise from On3 evaluators on back-to-back days. But, he especially stood out on Friday night.
“Penn State tight end commit Luke Reynolds, deserves a tip of the cap for his work on Thursday night,” Power, the On3 Director of Scouting, writes. “The 6-foot-4.5, 220-pounder ran a seemingly endless number of routes for the quarterbacks. Reynolds is a top athlete in the combine setting, but showed that twitch can transfer over to the field. The burst, change of direction and ability to finish catches stood out.”
