Penn State news, notes, and updates for May 8 include a new opportunity for a Nittany Lions commit plus much more.

it’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with recruiting. Class of 2025 commit Jaelyne Matthews will play in the 2025 All-American Bowl. The On3 Industry Ranking four-star, top 65 player, and offensive tackle has been a future Nittany Lion since January. The Toms River, N.J., North High product had offers from all over before picking head coach James Franklin’s program.

“When we were going through the 2025 rankings, we thought he was one of the high-floor, safer projections at offensive line,” On3 director of scouting Charles Power told BWI.

“We did that back in August and September and really liked what we saw from him. But he also has that upside, given the length and the movement skills. For Penn State to land one of the early top 2025 offensive linemen, it’s a really good start for their class.”

In other news, the first Penn State kick time of the season is here. The Lions will open their 2023 slate in primetime on Sept. 2. The contest that day with West Virginia at Beaver Stadium will start at 7:30 p.m. ET. NBC will televise it. This marks the first time since 2006 that the Lions will be on that network. It will also be the first PSU home game ever broadcast by NBC. All-time, Penn State is 48-9-2 against the Mountaineers.

Quote of the day

“Nick is phenomenal. There’s not enough good things I could say about Nick, but the best thing I could say about Nick is that he’s truly a kid. You get some kids who want to grow up really fast or live that double street life as well as play football. You don’t get any of that with Nick; you get a true genuine person.”
