It’s time to take a look at the top tweets and headlines about Penn State and college athletics on Tuesday.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with updated recruiting rankings. On3 and 247Sports both released their mid-summer update following a busy June on the camp circuit. That, of course, was followed by plenty of spring evaluation opportunities March-May in addition to the Under Armour Future 50 event last Sunday in Bradenton, Fla. Numerous Penn State commits made moves either up or down the rankings at On3. Here’s a breakdown of who rose or slid courtesy of BWI’s Ryan Snyder:

10) OL Jven Williams (Up one spot from No. 11)

29) OL Alex Birchmeier (Up four spots from No. 33)

88) Saf. King Mack (New to On300)

93) CB Elliot Washington (Down 27 spots from No. 66)

120) LB Tony Rojas (Up four spots from No. 124)

129) DL Tomarrion Parker (Down 58 spots from No. 71)

165) TE Andrew Rappleyea (Down one spot from No. 164)

172) LB Ta’Mere Robinson (Down 13 spots from No. 159)

195) DL Jameial Lyons (Up 48 spots from No. 243)

203) Saf. Conrad Hussey (New to On300)

253) TE Joey Schlaffer (New to On300)

Two other notes: Birchmeier is again an On3 Consensus five-star. And, the Lions sit at No. 8 in the team recruiting rankings.

Moving on to baseball news, Penn State catcher Matt Wood made program history on Monday when the Milwaukee Brewers selected him in the fourth round of the MLB Draft. He is now the highest-picked position player in Lions lore. He is the 77th Penn State player taken in the draft overall and the 15th top 10 selection.

Quote of the day

“I always say this: If it weren’t for injuries, we would have been in the College Football Playoff last year. “… I hear it from [Commanders receiver] Curtis [Samuel] all the time, and I say, ‘Listen, if it wasn’t for injuries, last year would have been our year.’ I truly believe that. And I’ll stand on that forever.”
