Penn State news, notes, and updates for Nov. 22 include recognition for defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, new recruiting offers, plus a major visitor for Saturday’s meeting with Michigan State.

It’s time to dive into Tuesday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with the latest on Manny Diaz’s path to win Broyles Award. It is given annually to the nation’s top assistant coach. Diaz was nominated for the honor earlier this month and was then named one of 15 semifinalists on Monday. Fourteen of the nominees who are still in play for the award are coordinators. Diaz is in his first season with the Nittany Lions. His Penn State defense has the most sacks in the Big Ten and the most passes defended and broken up in the country.

In other news, it was a busy day on the Penn State recruiting front. The Lions offered 2024 Pittsburgh athlete Jason Cross. Offensive line commit Jven Williams is also now the No. 6 player in the country, according to the On3 Class of 2023 player recruiting rankings. And, four-star Pa., receiver and current West Virginia commit Rodney Gallagher will visit Penn State this Saturday to see head coach James Franklin’s team take on the Spartans.

Quote of the day

“I think we all know what’s at stake and the players know that as well. I don’t think there’s any reason to continue to harp on that because that’s really talking about the end result. What we really need to focus on as a program with players and coaches is what we need to do every single day to prepare for that opportunity.”
