Penn State cornerback recruit Kevyn Humes locks in official visit plans for January
Penn State is one of six schools in the mix with St. Frances prospect Kevyn Humes. Back on Dec. 25, On3’s Chad Simmons reported that the 5-foot-11, 170-pound cornerback was not only planning to reclassify from 2025 to 2024 but that he had also set an official visit to Penn State for Jan. 19-21.
Now, Humes confirmed on Monday, Jan. 1, that five other schools are still in the mix, four of which now have official visits locked in. His first trip will be to Syracuse, Jan. 12-14, to meet with new head coach Fran Brown and his staff. That visit was already known publicly.
What we learned on Monday is that three more visits have been locked in, with USC set to host Humes after Penn State, Jan. 22-24. He’ll then go to Notre Dame, Jan. 26-28, followed by a trip to Florida the first weekend in February. Humes also confirmed that Maryland is in the mix. However, a visit hasn’t been set yet.
Humes told Simmons that his relationship with Penn State cornerback coach Terry Smith is a major reason why the Lions are in the mix.

“Penn State is a school I have visited three times and my relationship with Coach Terry Smith has skyrocketed this season,” Humes said. “I am very familiar with Penn State.”

Humes went on to add, “Coach Terry Smith is a main reason for Penn State being on [my] list. He is a great coach and he has produced some top defensive backs. He had a first-round pick last year in Joey Porter Jr and Kalen King could be next. That development has my attention.”
As for what he’s looking for in a school, Humes said there are two things in particular that he’s looking for.
“It is still about the living environment for me,” Humes said. “I want to enjoy waking up there and going to school there. Then, it is about the scheme and how I fit into it. Those two things will help me make my decision. My family and coaches believe in me. They pushed me and I competed this season against tough competition this season. I am ready to go.”
It’s unclear when exactly Humes plans to announce his decision. He’ll be able to sign with schools any time after Feb. 7. The Nittany Lions have already signed three cornerbacks already in the Class of 2024, including Top 100 prospect Jon Mitchell. Both Mitchell and his high school teammate, Antoine Belgrave-Shorter, are set to enroll at Penn State next week. Imhotep’s Kenny Woseley will enroll in the summer.
