Penn State added veteran cornerback Storm Duck via the NCAA transfer portal at the end of December. Now, the Lions are expecting to lose him to it.

As BWI publisher Sean Fitz first reported on Friday morning, multiple sources have confirmed to BWI that Duck will re-enter the transfer portal and play his final season elsewhere. He had not yet done so as of 11 a.m. Friday. But, it is expected to happen soon.

Duck was praised often since arriving after he joined the team for winter workouts and then seemingly thrived throughout spring practice. He originally decided to move onto the Lions because he quickly formed bonds with Terry Smith, Manny Diaz, James Franklin, and others after leaving North Carolina as an All-ACC second-team selection.

He will now be leaving the Lions after just a couple of months.

“It’s just coming in and doing the right things,” Duck said this spring. “You have to go in and earn guys’ respect. That’s with everything in life. Every place you go, they can welcome you, but it takes time to earn respect. So I’m just coming in to do everything the right way.

“If guys need help with anything, I’m there to help. And if I need anything, me asking them, me asking coach, confused with something, just all that stuff. I want to come in and be the best leader I can be, show that it’s all from the heart. Coming to Penn State, you gotta be all in, so that’s where I’m at.”

Now, he’s moving on, in all likelihood. Duck could, of course, decide to return to Penn State. But, it’s rare for a player to enter the portal and then return to the Lions. That said, defensive tackle Davon Townley Jr., did do exactly that earlier this offseason.
