Penn State defensive end Davon Townley Jr., has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, a source confirmed to Blue-White Illustrated on Wednesday.

Townley Jr., came to the Lions as a four-star member of the Class of 2021. After redshirting last season, he played in seven games this fall, netting three tackles. He will have a few years of eligibility remaining at his next stop.

A Minneapolis, Minn., native, Townley Jr., could have but was not guaranteed to factor into the defensive line rotation for position coach John Scott Jr., and coordinator Manny Diaz next fall.

“I wouldn’t say that they stressed (getting bigger),” Townley told BWI back in June. “I kind of just realized that it’s the next level and a lot of guys are going to be just as big as me or bigger. So I put on some weight so I can hang with the big guys.

“It’s been a good process. It is definitely something that kind of takes time. It’s not something that just happens overnight. You got to keep working. And, as you put on muscle and stuff like that, the running and the speed will come along with that.”

That work will now come at another destination, in all likelihood. Players are allowed to enter the portal and then withdrawal their name and stay at their current school. That has been a rare occurrence at Penn State, though, during the James Franklin era.

More Penn State portal movement

Townley Jr., is the latest Penn State player to enter the portal after players were allowed to officially go into it on Dec. 5, which kicked off a 45-day window to do so that ends Jan. 18, 2023. The rundown to date includes:
