Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter made good on the decision to move to defensive end this offseason. Facing a shortage of linebacker depth, the team and Carter made the move anyway, with a long-term goal in mind. Carter, a 250-pound linebacker, was likely destined to play off the edge in the NFL anyway. With Chop Robinson and Adisa Isaac moving on to the NFL after the 2023 season, the team needed a fastball off the edge to compliment 270-pound power rusher Dani Dennis-Sutton.
