The Penn State defensive end group could look very different next fall. Or, it could look mostly as it did this past season. But, which side the coin falls on is yet to be determined.

Nittany Lion defensive ends Adisa Isaac and Nick Tarburton are both eligible to enter the NFL Draft. However, each has eligibility remaining that would allow them to return to the Nittany Lions in 2023. Both plan to play in the Rose Bowl opposite No. 8 Utah on Jan. 2 in Pasadena, Calif. But, only Tarburton has said he will head to the pros after the game.

“I have a decision to make,” Isaac said. “But I haven’t currently made any decisions. I’m just trying to focus on school, finishing out school, and finishing out this Rose Bowl with my guys. I’m just leaning on my mom, coaches, agents. The people that are close to me that’ve seen what I’ve done and know what I’ve been through and give me that great feedback that I need to hear.”

Isaac returned from an injury that cost him all of the 2021 season this fall to 23 tackles (nine for loss), four sacks, and eight quarterback hurries.

Isaac will weigh many factors before making his decision to stay at or leave Penn State

Isaac has been at Penn State since 2019. Since he redshirted in 2021, he actually has two years of eligibility remaining. But, he could also leave for the 2023 NFL Draft. How will he decide what to do?

“I’m having the talk with my family, just where we’re at as a family, coaches, where am I as a player, just taking that self-evaluation of myself and looking at my weaknesses and strengths, the pros and cons of it,” Isaac said. “Just asking others, agents, other coaches, what they see in me and just having that extra opinion to make the right choice.”

He felt good about his season so far. Now, we’ll wait and see if he’ll play another in blue and white.

“It was pretty solid,” he said. “I feel like, honestly, I could have done a lot more. But, given my body and all the other factors, I feel like I did pretty well. Definitely in a good spot to build off of, and I’m definitely looking forward to building on it.”

Tarburton’s decision is in

Here’s what he said Saturday night about his choice:

“My time here at Penn State has been nothing short of special. Although it has never been easy, Penn State shaped me into the man I am today. There will always be a special place in my heart for happy valley & all that it has to offer.

“To Coach Franklin, Coach Scott & all the other coaches who have helped me throughout my time at Penn State, thank you. Thank you for taking a shot on a small town kid from Perkasie, Pennsylvania. What you all have done for me & my family is something I will always be indebted to. I also want to thank all of the support staff & athletic trainers – you all are truly world class.

“Finally, my brothers. I have formed relationships that will last a lifetime. We have made some pretty awesome memories over the years. Without you all, I wouldn’t be in the position or the person I am today. You guys are everything to me.

“I can’t wait to go to battle one last time with you all in the Rose Bowl.

“With that being said, I am going to take that next step in my journey & chase my dreams in the NFL. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. We are.”
