Penn State end Chop Robinson looks 'good' in practice; Lions still hopeful he can play against Michigan
Penn State defensive end Chop Robinson went through drills on Wednesday ahead of the Lions’ top-10 matchup with Michigan on Saturday at Beaver Stadium. The junior left the Ohio State game during the first half due to injury. He eventually took a cart ride to the locker room. He was seen outside of it after the game. But,he then missed the UMass matchup a week later. Last Saturday, he traveled with the Lions to Maryland and participated in warmups. But, he did not play. His status for this weekend’s contest remains up in the air just days before kickoff.
“I think I said that to you guys on Monday. We’re hopeful that he’ll be ready to go,” Lions coach James Franklin said Wednesday night. “I spent most of the time on offense’s side of the field [Wednesday night]. I got to watch the tape. He looked good on Sunday. Looked good on Monday. I’ll watch the tape. But yeah, [he looked] good.”
After beating the Terrapins 51-15 last Saturday in College Park, the Penn State coach explained why Robinson traveled with the team despite watching the game from the sideline.
“I thought being able to travel [Robinson] was big, not only from a rehab standpoint to get him with our trainers and doctors, but also from a morale standpoint,” Franklin said. “That was something we talked about in the locker room, of not just finding a way to get a win and playing well, but also playing for Chop with his inability to play last week. So we’re hopeful to have both of those guys back.”

More on the Penn State injury front
Penn State is hoping to have both Robinson and fellow defensive end Amin Vanover back against the Wolverines. Neither has played the last two weeks. The chances are promising for both to be on the field this weekend. But, there are no guarantees. The same cannot be said about receiver Harrison Wallace III. After suffering an injury against UMass that left his right arm in a sling during the first half, he was not on the travel roster last week and was not at practice this week. His status is to be determined by the Big Ten availability report on Saturday morning.
The Lions appear healthy otherwise. Both sides are surely dealing with some bumps and bruises at this point of the season. But, the availability of Robinson and Vanover will be major talking points on Saturday morning before kickoff. It is at Noon ET on FOX from Beaver Stadium.
