Penn State has extended another new transfer portal offer. This time, it is targeting an All-Conference USA first-team wide receiver.

Former Lousiana Tech receiver Tre Harris announced on Thursday that the Lions have extended an offer. The 6-foot-2, 204-pound recruit signed with the Bulldogs in the recruiting Class of 2020. He played immediately, totaling seven appearances as a true freshman. Then, in 2021, the Lafayette, La., native hauled in 40 passes for 562 yards and four touchdowns en route to an honorable mention nod from the conference. Harris had his best season to date in 2022. He was second on the team with 65 receptions but led Louisana Tech with 935 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The Bulldogs finished 3-9, so they won’t be playing in the postseason. That means Harris can start making visits to the schools of his choice whenever he is ready to. Other programs that have also offered him as of midday Thursday include Mississippi State, West Virginia, and Oklahoma. Harris will have three years to play two at his next stop.

An On3 bio has more on Harris’ journey up until this point:

“Tre Harris was an On3 Consensus three-star prospect coming out of Lafayette (Louisiana) Comeaux High School in the 2020 recruiting class. He signed with Louisiana Tech over offers from Louisiana, Louisiana-Monroe, Nicholls State and Northwestern State. Harris had 65 receptions for 935 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2022 and was first-team All-CUSA after earning honorable mention all-league honors in 2021. He entered the Transfer Portal after the 2022 season.”

Penn State portal focus continues to come into view

Right now, one thing is certain about the Penn State portal pursuit in this cycle: It is aiming to add at least one receiver from the transfer portal ahead of the 2023 season. Mitchell Tinsley definitely will not be back next season. Parker Washington may not be, either. And, outside of KeAndre Lambert-Smith, the Lions otherwise have a group of surefire returners who have either not yet played, seen time but have limited production, or have only shown flashes of their potential to date. Thus, adding someone with a proven track record like the Lions did a year ago with Tinsley, makes sense.

This year’s portal offers at receiver are out to a list of prospects that includes but is not limited to former Kent State receiver Dante Cephus, who will visit this weekend, onetime Oregon pass catcher Dont’e Thornton, who was once committed to the Lions, former USF speedster Jimmy Horn, and past Arizona receiver Dorian Singer.
