Penn State extends new offer to transfer portal receiver
Penn State has extended another new offer to a coveted Power Five receiver in the transfer portal on Thursday evening. As revealed on Twitter, Mississippi State wideout Rara Thomas is the newest target of the Nittany Lions this offseason.
A 6-foot-2, 200-pound receiver hailing from Eufaula, Ala., Thomas has appeared in 22 games for the Bulldogs in his first two seasons of college football. This year proved to be his most productive, finishing with 44 receptions for 626 yards and 7 touchdowns over 12 games. Thomas appeared overwhelmingly out wide for Mississippi State this year.
With Thomas’ transfer, he’ll have three years to play two at his future destination.
Those options through the first few days of the transfer portal continue to grow, however. Penn State being the latest, the Nittany Lions join other offers from Miami, Arkansas, Florida State, Memphis, Georgia, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Utah, Ole Miss, UCF, and Auburn since announcing his decision on Monday.
“First I would like to thank god because without him, none of this is possible. I would like to thank my family for being my biggest support system and being here with me through it all,” Thomas wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to the entire Mississippi State coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to play on this level.

“To the Bulldog fans. I am forever grateful for each of you for welcoming me into the community and allowing me to call this my home over the past 2 years with that being said, after a lot of prayer and self-reflection, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility.”
Penn State football’s priority targets
Thomas isn’t alone on Penn State’s portal radar at the receiver position. And, it’s for good reason.
Certain to lose Mitchell Tinsley following this season, the Nittany Lions could also be without Parker Washington. Depending on his decision to return for a fourth season or go pro, Washington could be gone next year. Injured late this season, Washington missed Penn State’s game at Rutgers and Michigan State. He has been announced out for the rest of the year.
The program has also zeroed in on Dont’e Thornton and Dante Cephas in the transfer portal.
