Penn State extends offer to Class of 2024 wing
Penn State basketball has extended a new scholarship offer to Class of 2024 wing Darrion Sutton. The Nittany Lions weren’t alone in their pursuit of the fast-rising wing out of Accelerated Prep in the suburbs of Denver, Colo.
Sutton has captured the attention of multiple high-major programs this spring, with some recruiting services listing him at 6-foot-10, for his performances on the AAU circuit. That attention manifested itself this week with offers from Illinois, Missouri, Cincinnati, Michigan, and Virginia Tech, in addition to Penn State, between Sunday and Tuesday.
Sutton reported the offer from the Nittany Lions on Monday afternoon via Twitter. This, following a weekend of performances that reportedly included a 30 point, 8 rebound, 4 assist game with his Young & Reckless team.
Scouting Darrion Sutton
Sutton has quickly emerged as a high-level prospect this spring thanks to his outstanding length and ball skills. He’s been praised for his versatility, able to handle the basketball like a guard but also establishing a presence inside.
The combination has earned Sutton initial three-star ratings from both 247 and Rivals, though he’s expected to climb among all the major recruiting services.

Next steps for Penn State basketball
The Sutton offer comes right as the Penn State basketball program turns the corner in its triage-level roster-building pursuit at the start of the Mike Rhoades era. Inheriting a program with just three returning scholarship players, Rhoades and his staff have spent virtually all of their first two months on campus working to construct a team ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Most recently, that has taken shape with the 11th and 12th filled scholarships for next season in Icelandic guard Bragi Gudmundsson and Miami center transfer Favour Aire.
However, with only one outstanding scholarship to fill for next season, the Nittany Lions have slowly turned their attention toward their first full recruiting class. Last week, that included an offer to Austin Swartz, a four-star shooting guard out of North Carolina.
