The Penn State defense found itself on the wrong side of a 27-24 loss to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl, despite a fast start that included two punts and an interception to start the game. The only real scoring drive that the Nittany Lions allowed was a field goal before halftime. Then things changed. The team allowed 128 yards in the third quarter, giving up the lead and the tactical advantage that the team had accrued in the first half by getting out to the early lead.
