Penn State finds balance in final victory of the season: Film Study

Penn State’s offensive explosion against Utah in the 103rd Rose Bowl Game wasn’t wholly unexpected. The team has superior athletes at most positions and, at times, has shown the ability to make big plays throughout the season. However, the way Penn State generated those big plays was unexpected. They didn’t come from coverage busts or multiple explosive runs but were generated primarily by quarterback Sean Clifford. As we discussed yesterday, he defeated several of his personal deficiencies on the way to the best game of his career. But how he did it and what Utah did to allow him to achieve this was somewhat shocking. We’ll dive into what coverages they used and, maybe more importantly, which ones they didn’t.
