Penn State football finally found out its fate with four-star safety prospect Conrad Hussey. After a back-and-forth fight between Miami, Florida State and the Nittany Lions, Hussey didn’t sign and send in a letter of intent yesterday. Thursday night, Hussey finally made his decision. Penn State originally gained Hussey’s verbal commitment at the end of April, shortly after the south Florida native made a trip up to Happy Valley. The 6-0 185-pound athlete’s quick decision came as a happy surprise for the Nittany Lions on the recruiting trail, which was followed closely by his teammate King Mack joining the program. Despite being the second player on board, and a higher-ranked prospect, Mack stayed committed through the process and signed on Wednesday.

However, Hussey took an official visit to Florida State on Dec 9 and followed that up with an unofficial visit later in the month. That visit led to indecision and a battle between the two schools, with Miami working in the mix late.

Hussey is a versatile secondary athlete and a great fit in Manny Diaz’s defense. He runs a sub. 11-second 100-meter dash has the feet to play in single coverage and has improved as a tackler. He and Mack play in an advanced defense at St. Thomas Aquinas that asks both to play multiple roles, but Hussey spends more of his time at free safety, despite his larger stature.

The two defenders helped power St. Thomas to a record 14th state title and an undefeated 14-0 record.

Conrad Hussey: Strengths

Movement Skills: It’s not just one area of athleticism that Hussey shows on tape. It’s all of them. Burst, straight-line speed, mobility, and agility are all present in his movement skills. Hussey uses them to jet around the field in the St. Thomas defense, which is similar to Penn State’s under new defensive coordinator Manny Diaz.

In this defense, Hussey plays in the slot, in a deep half, free safety, and at the edge of the box. He shows great range in each position to stay with receivers in and has the burst to cover ground in a deep zone. This versatility makes him an excellent prospect for the Nittany Lions.

Hands and Body Control: Hussey doesn’t just have a nose for the ball; he has a flair for the dramatic. His body control and hands at the catch point produce some jaw-dropping interceptions. As long as his physical skills continue to progress on their current path, Hussey can be a defensive weapon in the secondary that plays more like a receiver than a defensive back.
