Penn State adds another offensive lineman to 2024 class in Florida native Deryc Plazz
Penn State picked up another offensive line commitment Sunday with the addition of Florida native Deryc Plazz. A 6-foot-4, 280-pound prospect, Plazz picked up an offer from Nittany Lion offensive line coach Phil Trautwein about two months ago, April 7. It’s believed that he could play all five positions, giving the Nittany Lions more versatility along the offensive front.
Plazz, who plays at Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, earned nearly 30 Division I scholarship offers. Almost all of them have come since the start of 2023.
Duke, Florida State, Miami, N.C. State, Pitt, Rutgers and Wake Forest all earned unofficial visits over the past six months. The Wolfpack, Hurricanes and Blue Devils were all expected to get Plazz on campus for official visits in the weeks ahead. He’ll forgo those visits after committing to Penn State. The reasons, according to Plazz, were clear.
“I committed because I know this is home. Immediately after stepping on campus, I felt this was home,” Plazz said. “I felt welcomed and loved. The scenery is totally different from what I’m used to, which is amazing. The players truly care about each other and push each other to be great while also holding each other accountable. Penn State won me over because everything is complete. It’s the perfect mix of academics and high-level football, which is exactly what I was looking for.”

Last season, Plazz helped pave the way for over 3,400 yards from the Tigers’ offense. He totaled more than 60 pancake blocks and allowed just one sack the entire season.
Plazz is now the fifth offensive lineman to join the class. Penn State previously picked up commitments from offensive tackles Garrett Sexton and Eagn Boyer, as well as interior linemen Cooper Cousins and Donovan Harbour. It should be noted that Wyomissing athlete Caleb Brewer could play either offensive or defensive line.
The Nittany Lions hosted 13 official visitors this past weekend. In addition to Plazz, Penn State also hosted another Florida offensive lineman in Tye Hylton. Ethan Calloway, Guerby Lambert and Kai Greer also have official visits set to Penn State later this month. Calloway and Greer, both of whom reside in North Carolina, are expected to visit June 16-18. Lambert, from West Roxbury, Mass., is set for June 23-25.
