Penn State picks up commitment from four-star safety Dejuan Lane
Penn State’s Class of 2024 continues to grow, this time with the addition of four-star prospect Dejuan Lane. A native of Baltimore, Lane has long been considered one of the staff’s most important prospects on defense.
At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Lane is listed as a linebacker by On3, but assistant coach Anthony Poindexter likes his potential best at safety.
Details about his recruitment have also been few and far between, however. Last June, Lane visited six different schools – Duke, Georgia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Wake Forest – but for the most part has been quiet about any other visits. Aside from those visits, we know Lane attended Penn State’s season finale win over Michigan State last November. He also went to Notre Dame in April.
Lane holds a four-star rating in the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s ranked No. 304 nationally and No. 9 overall in Maryland for the Class of 2024.
Recruiting: Penn State locks in official visit with top tight end prospect
The Nittany Lions now hold four commitments from potential defensive backs in the Class of 2024. Lane is the first safety to commit, while Kenny Woseley, Antoine Belgrave-Shorter and Jon Mitchell will all focus on cornerback when they arrive on campus.

It’s still believed that Penn State could take one more cornerback and one more safety. At corner, Tampa native Jameer Grimsley is the clear top target for the staff. He’ll take an official visit to Penn State next weekend, June 9-11. Ohio natives Aaron Scott and Terhyon Nichols are also in the mix, as is Texas native Mario Buford.
The Nittany Lions also have a few official visits lined up with additional safety prospects. New Jersey native Vaboue Toure has visited Penn State twice since last October. He’ll be back on campus next weekend for an official visit. The staff also has official visits lined up with Jaylen Heyward, from Rockledge, Fla., and Kaj Sanders, from Oradell, N.J.
Penn State now holds 17 commitments total in the class. Lane is the sixth four-star to join the class according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s the third player to commit on Sunday, joining OL Deryc Plazz and DL Xavier Gilliam.
