Penn State picks up another four-star commitment from WR Josiah Brown
Penn State has added another coveted four-star prospect, this time picking up a commitment from wide receiver Josiah Brown. A native of Long Island, N.Y., Brown earned an offer from Penn State in March 2022.
He visited for the first time in April 2022 but wasn’t able to get back on campus until Jan. 2023. That was followed by another unofficial visit this past April before he took an official visit last weekend, June 16-18. Brown earned two dozen scholarship offers, including schools like Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and many others. However, staying close to home was important, which is why his decision ultimately came down to Penn State and Rutgers.
“Penn State is a wonderful place when it comes down to it,” Brown said. “Between the facilities, the coaches, even graduating from Penn State and the degree you get, it holds so much weight. When I went on my visit, the players treated me like family and I just met them. That said a lot.”
Brown has been primarily speaking with Penn State wide receiver coach Marquese Hagans.
“He’s a standup guy,” Brown said. “When I went up there, he was very passionate about his players. I saw him teaching everyone the same and making sure everybody got the concepts there.”

Brown went on to add, “The energy and the way my family got to vibe with all the coaches there, it meant a lot to me. [My family] had a wonderful time on the visit. That meant a lot to me. Family means a lot to me. So, the fact that they had just as good of a time with everyone as I did, it spoke volumes.”

A member of the On300, Brown is currently ranked No. 257 nationally. He’s the ninth-ranked athlete currently and the second-ranked player in New York for the 2024 class. From a rankings perspective, he and Tyseer Denmark are two of the best receiver prospects in the northeast this year, as only Virginia’s Keylen Adams ranks higher. However, following some recent workouts, his new future teammate, Peter Gonzalez, deserves to be mentioned, too.
“We hung out for most of the visit,” Brown said, referring to Gonzalez and Denmark, who also took official visits to Penn State last weekend. “Those guys are great ballers. I’m looking forward to getting better with those guys every day.”
The Nittany Lions are now up to 20 commitments in the Class of 2024. According to the On3 Industry Rankings, which are used to sort the team rankings, Brown is the sixth-ranked player in the class.
“I’m extremely excited,” Brown said. “I’m a hard worker and I’m ready to go out there and show everybody what I can do.”
