Penn State picked up a commitment in its 2026 class over the weekend, but it didn’t come from one of a handful of uncommitted official visitors who were on campus. Rather, it was Detroit native Ben Eziuka who announced his decision on Tuesday after camping with offensive line coach Phil Trautwein and the staff Sunday.

“I feel like every time I came back there, it just felt more and more like home,” Eziuka said. “I’ve been talking with Trautwein for a year now, and that communication has always been good. He’s been great at communicating with me and my mom every step of the way. [Chris Mahon] has always been great, and I’ve done multiple FaceTime calls with Coach [James] Franklin. They’ve always made it clear to me that I’m a priority to them.”

Listed at 6-foot-3, 295 pounds, Eziuka emerged last summer when he attended the annual Whiteout Camp in July. The Detroit Catholic Central prospect then returned to campus this past November for the White Out game. He made it clear after that experience that the Nittany Lions would be a top contender in his recruitment.

“Every time I came to Penn State, I got to see something new that I liked,” Eziuka said. “Seeing that White Out last year, that was big for me. I want to play in those big-time games against Ohio State or Michigan. This year, they’re playing Oregon in the White Out. I want to be in those kinds of games that are always going to be remembered.”

Eziuka returned for two more visits in 2025, first attending a junior day back in January. He was then back at Penn State at the end of April to attend this year’s Blue-White Game. All of those experiences combined made it clear where he wanted to be.

Throughout his recruitment, Eziuka visited a dozen different schools. Cincinnati, Kentucky, Stanford and Wake Forest were among the more notable schools that he was in contact with in recent months. His decision ultimately came down to Penn State and Stanford.

Eziuka holds a three-star rating by both On3 and in the Industry Rankings. On3 has him ranked 61st overall as an interior offensive lineman. The Industry Rankings have him ranked No. 740 nationally, No. 73 at the position and 11th overall in Michigan for the class.

In addition to football, he’s also an accomplished wrestler, finishing seventh in Michigan at heavyweight his sophomore year with a record of 35-13. It was also just his second year wrestling. Eziuka then missed most of his junior season on the mat, cleaning up a minor injury during football season. He’s unsure if he’ll enroll at Penn State next January, but if he doesn’t, he plans to wrestle again.

He’s the third offensive lineman to officially announce his commitment to Penn State, joining Top 100 prospect Kevin Brown and three-star offensive tackle Roseby Lubintus. The Nittany Lions are also the team to beat with four-star offensive tackle Marlen Bright, who’s set to announce his decision on July 5.
