Penn State football found itself needing to make a hire for its award-winning video staff this offseason when former assistant video director Joe Loosemore left for a promotion on former Nittany Lions defensive coordinator Manny Diaz’s Duke staff. In early June, it filled the void by plucking New Jersey native Kyle Lane away from Georgia. However, that arrangement lasted less than a month. Lane is no longer listed in the athletic directory and the program has re-posted the position he filled.

It’s unclear why Lane moved on so quickly. But, either way, it leaves the longtime program Director of Coaching Technology and Video Director, Jevin Stone, with another hire to make less than a month before preseason camp begins. Once complete, it should finalize head coach James Franklin’s 11th staff in State College. This is likely his biggest one yet. The program added some analysts this offseason in positions that appear to be new. There is also now an assistant director of player relations in Brett Arnold.

More on Stone’s staff at Penn State

Lane joins an award-winning group that is Stone will direct for the 13th season in 2024. The Collegiate Sports Video Association named Stone the 2023-2024 Video Coordinator of the Year. It also recognized him and his staff as the 2023-2024 Motivational video award winner for its pre-Maryland hype video. And, it also called the video clip Franklin tweets when he shares that a new commitment comes in the short social category winner of the year. You can watch it in the embedded tweet below.

Stone’s staff has been recognized as one of the best in college football repeatedly. Much of their work is regularly viewed. But, they do their work behind the scenes with little fanfare. It is an important job within the program, though, which means Penn State will have no shortage of strong applicants.
